The Wharton 4860, 4860net and 4860netclient series of systems GPS synchronized master
clock provides a complete precision timing solution for all types
of commercial systems, from NTP network time synchronisation, the control and time synchronization
of a single piece of intelligent equipment, the synchronization of other large
networks and systems incorporating a wide variety of communications, recording, surveillance,
information and many types of mechanical
and electronic digital and analogue secondary slave clocks.
Each master clock is preprogrammed with a wide range of user selectable
time message formats for the time synchronization of many different
types and makes of CCTV, voice recording, security and other digital
equipment via RS232 and RS485 serial links.
The range is designed for simple installation and 'setup
and forget' operation.
features
Display
The 4860 series master clock has a 14mm (0.6”) high,
bright red six digit display of time, date or
status information which is visible at distances
of up to 7m (20ft). The time display can be configured
to show either local or UTC time.
NTP and SNTP network time
synchronization
net versions
operate as a NTP time server on a TCP/IP
network, serving NTP/SNTP time-packets
directly to clients on the network. Network
Time Protocol (NTP) v2, v3 and v4 clients
are supported in the unicast mode of operation (RFC1305 & RFC1119).
Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) v3
and v4 clients are supported in the unicast
mode of operation (RFC2030
& RFC1769).
The 4860netclient
version allows time synchronization
from an NTP time source,
enabling the control and
synchronisation of large
digital clock and other
systems across existing
structured TCP/IP cabling
networks.
Serial ASCII RS232
& RS485 outputs
The 4860 and 4860net master clock has a standard user configurable
serial ASCII data port with a
wide range of data and message
formats available at programmable
intervals or on request. Master
clocks can also be supplied with
two or four RS232+RS485 outputs
as an extra cost option.
w482® time code output
This standard output provides a time
code to drive up to 50 400A series
clocks, calendar clocks and time-zone
clocks displaying time or time
and date in up to 15 different
global time zones.
1pps output
A precision one pulse per second signal of 100mS duration is available at RS232 levels.
The leading edge of the signal is within 50uS of UTC when locked to GPS.
Relay output
A user configurable voltage-free, change-over relay
contact pair rated at 500mA @30v dc is available
and may be used to provide status information
or a periodic signal at user selectable intervals
between every 5 seconds to once per day at a user
programmable time.
IRIG timecode output
4861 versions have a 1KHz amplitude
modulated 3v p-p, 600 ohm transformer coupled
code output user configurable for IRIG-B, Afnor
87-500, NENA 911 or IEEE 1344 formats.
EBU timecode output
4862 versions provide
EBU longitudinal time code (LTC)
at 2000bps with 25 complete frame
messages per second.
Optional impulse outputs
The 486x and 486xnet master clock
may be supplied with a dual channel
24v impulse output rated at 200mA
per channel by specifying the
.IMP option.
Each output is programmable
for one second, half minute
or one minute alternate
polarity impulses. The
fully protected output
drive circuits detect
overload, short circuit
and power failure conditions
and automatically corrects
resulting time errors
on fault removal. The impulse output option is not available if the the unit is fitted with four serial ports.
Case
The 4860 series master clock is
housed in 1U high rack mounting
cases suitable for either free
standing or rack mounting applications.
Power supply
The 4860 series master clock will operate
from a 100-250v 50/60Hz ac supply.
Versions are available to operate
from 24v or 48v dc supplies at
extra cost. The operational location
and local voltage should be specified
at time of order to ensure that
the unit is supplied with the
appropriate mains connection.
timekeeping
& synchronisation
486x and 486xnet master
clocks will operate either as
stand-alone units or synchronised
from external time references.
Stand-alone operation
When used in stand-alone configuration the
clock maintains time keeping from a high
stability internal temperature compensated
crystal oscillator. The clock is pre-programmed
for leap-years and can be user programmed
for the required automatic seasonal time-change.
4860 & 4860net
DCF & MSF radio time
codes (requires
484 series radio
time code receiver)
GPS satellite time
signals (requires
488GPS time synchronisation
sub-system)
synchronisation to IRIG-B (B123) and afnor NFS 87-500 signals
is available to special order and at extra cost.
4860netclient
4860netclient models will
synchronise to an NTP
time source on a TCP/IP
computer network.
RS232
& RS485 interfaces
Each RS232+RS485 serial
interface can be configured for
many different pre-programmed data message formats
for specific CCTV, security and embedded
equipment time synchronisation.
Message repetition
rates
Non-specific message formats
are user selectable for transmission
every second, every minute, every
five minutes, every hour, every
day or on request.
Message data rate &
format
The data rate and format
of non-specific messages may be
set for 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600
or 19200 baud, 7 or 8 data bits
and even, odd or no parity.
Standard message formats
The following standard message
formats are pre-programmed in the 4860
series master clock in addition to four
specific Wharton formats. Where referenced
please refer to the appropriate application
note. If the data rate, format and repetition
rate are pre-defined by the application
these parameters are pre-set.
